New Surfshark feature: scam text protection is live — scam texts caught before they reach you

New Surfshark feature: scam text protection is live — scam texts caught before they reach you

This one's been requested a lot, so glad to finally share it.

Scam text protection is now available on Surfshark. It scans incoming texts for known scam patterns and acts before you interact with them.

How it works depends on your platform:

iOS: suspicious text messages are automatically detected and moved to a separate spam folder in your Messages app. You don't get a notification for them. They're just moved out of the way. You can always review and recover.

Android: you get a notification from Surfshark the moment a scam is detected. Tapping it opens the message in a safe view inside the Surfshark app, where you can see the message content and the specific signs that flagged it as a scam. No accidental link taps, no risk from viewing. There's also a dashboard that tracks estimated money saved over time (available in the US only).

A few things worth noting:

  • The feature does not retain your texts, monitor your phone generally, or use private data to train AI models;
  • Works on iPhones and Android phones. Does not work on iPads;
  • It's designed to reduce the pressure of constant vigilance. You don't have to be the one spotting the scam every time.

We’re excited to hear how the new feature is working for you.

We're phasing out Search — here's why

Hey everyone.

An update: we're phasing out Surfshark Search.

Here's the thinking behind it. Most of you rely on Surfshark to secure your connection, block scams, protect against viruses, and safeguard your identity. Search adoption stayed limited to a very small share of our users, so we've made the decision to phase it out and focus on the features most of our users rely on every day.

Timeline: we started with iOS, and with the next Android update, this solution will no longer be available there either. We don't want to remove it overnight, though, so for a while you'll still be able to use Search through our website. We do plan to retire it by the end of this year, but we wanted to give everyone enough time to adjust.

Thanks to everyone who made Surfshark Search part of their routine. We know changes like this take some adjusting to, and we appreciate your patience as we shift focus to the tools you rely on most.

We just redesigned the Surfshark browser extension — here's what changed

Hey everyone — quick intro first. I'm Gabrielė, Head of Product at Surfshark. Just joined this community and looking forward to more conversations like this one.

We pushed a major redesign of the browser extension. Scam and phishing volume has been climbing fast this year, so we put our scam protection tools front and center — now you can see how many ads, trackers, and threats are being blocked on every site you visit, all in one view.

Quick rundown:

  • Home view is now a protection hub: per-site ad/tracker stats, cookie pop-up and malicious site blocking, breach checks, email scam checker;
  • Location settings are now moved to the main screen;
  • Ad blocker folded into the home experience — no more separate sidebar items;
  • Existing users get a short onboarding flow with the update.

Screenshots below. Would love to hear what you think once you've tried it.
