Worry not, it'll stay somewhat long. I'll probably just trim a few inches. It's just so frustrating and/or funny that it looks so good all of the sudden. I know curly hair has a mind of its own but how does it know when it's going to be cut and rearranges itself perfectly for it??

If the pic looks overexposed - yeah, probably a bit. You just can't see the curl pattern at all otherwise.
