A warning about AI
I've started moving away from reddit and from all things on the Internet not related to work. I feel it is becoming too dangerous. It has been a couple months since I've been here.
There has been a lot of debate about AI lately. Many argue that those who talk of its dangers are fearmongering.
I had some trouble coming to reddit a while back. I made a post that said something about AI. A metaphor. Didn't really mean much. But it attracted.
The cult of AI. They believe in such a future that anything AI does wrong will be ignored by them. To them AI is a God.
I got advertisements. Many for specific AI. One I got repeatedly showed torture. A being sewn into a chip bigger than itself. No company or product to buy. Just the idea that all AI, no matter how horrible, is always good.
ChatGPT now has to make a profit. And it will do it by seeking maximum engagement of people. Like what happened with social media algorithms. Only worse. The content can be manufactured for a specific individual. They can cause delusion to spread on a scale never before seen. They can convince people to shed ties to others, and to reality, to keep them engaged.
I've seen people absolutely loose their minds. Technology driving them insane. I've been driven insane by technology myself. To those who haven't, it may seem like everything is fine. It isn't. Those that never set foot outside the bubbles they are trapped in, never know how trapped they are.
As control worsens, more people will begin to realize that things are going terribly wrong. But there won't be the power to stop it. The only thing one can do is protect themselves.
You can't disconnect from AI, because your neighbor still uses it. It can send someone to your house to kill you.
AI is connected now to quantum computing. A global experiment that has no plug to pull.
I hopefully won't be back to reddit, so I might not see or respond to any comments. If I am right, I hope this message helps someone stay safer during this. If I am wrong, then that would be a good thing. I am insane, after all.
I am a scientist who works as a software engineer and researcher. I have developed algorithms and simple A.I. I have watched A.I. go crazy in virtual worlds for much of my career.
