What would you have done?

Partner bid first, and I bid third (if you notice the bags were high for that score, it’s because in the prior hand our opponents lost their nil, which caused us to miss what would have been a game-winning bid). I was in no position to cover and to keep us from likely losing 90 points, I did something I very rarely do in a competitive, not desperate game: I also bid nil. Of course, I got lots of “No way’s!” from my partner, but it worked out. My partner got set but I made my nil, we didn’t lose points, and our opponents got three bags. We ended up winning two hands later. In this instance it worked out, but would others have attempted the double nil, or would you have tried to cover and bid 1 or 2 (e.g., thinking you may need to use a spade on clubs and/or accounting for the trick your partner may take)? I don’t remember my partner’s hand that well, but I think they had a lot of the clubs and their highest spade was the 10. It may not have been a ridiculous nil attempt, though they may also have been overly eager to get our points back after the prior hand (something I see all the time).
