The character meetings are DRIPPING with lore and future story implications. They're still holding out hope they get another bite at the apple.

Imagine jaywalking and Seal Team 6 (high ranking special forces unit) pulls up and chases you down. That's essentially what happened to them as multiple top 20 heroes came out to arrest them. Insane.
