Here the translation from Italian:

Little Baloo, a long-haired Chihuahua, and his owner were quietly walking along Corso Regina Margherita in Ospedaletti. Strictly on a leash, as always, near the Pinky Bar, they encountered a pit bull, which was also on a leash but not muzzled, being walked by an elderly couple. The molosser-type dog yanked its owner, who was reportedly unable to hold it back, and lunged at the tiny dog weighing just under three kilograms, biting him by the neck and snapping his spine cleanly. Terrified, the owner even tried to ward off the pit bull by defending herself with a chair taken from the bar's outdoor seating area, but there was nothing that could be done for six-year-old Baloo.

On the other hand, the owners of the pit bull reportedly did not even stay until the arrival of the veterinarian—alerted by the 112 emergency number—who could do nothing but confirm the chihuahua's death.

Local police officers intervened at the scene and proceeded with the necessary investigations. Tomorrow, the owner, wife of one of the owners of the Versiliesi Beach Resort, will go to the Carabinieri station to file a complaint against the pit bull's owners, who will be fined for failing to muzzle their dog.

Meanwhile, she is still in shock over what happened to little Baloo, who lived peacefully with several cats and was also dearly loved by the beach resort's customers. At this point, all that remains is to warn dog owners who frequent Ospedaletti and to remind everyone that, whether big or small, dogs must always be kept on a leash because you can never know how they might react upon seeing another dog. In this case, both were on leashes, but especially on the bike path in the morning and evening, there are still far too many dogs left off-leash.
