A question about curse words
I believe that there are two kinds of curse words. I call them Old-School and New-School curse words. The Old-School words are what you consider to be curse words, but to be honest, most people just use them as seasoning in their private language. The only places Old-School curse words tend to be shunned are broadcast TV and in professional settings. New-School curse words, on the other hand, tend to be things that are actively harmful, and any non-bigoted person would eschew them from their vocabulary altogether. These would be things like r*****, n*****, and c***. I won't use them because you likely know what they are, and I don't actually want to hurt anyone. I have used compound curse words for decades because they add just a bit more punch when you really want to make a point, but one compound word has been coming up in my vocabulary, and I'm not sure if it meets the definition of a New-School curse word. The word is Fucktard. I know a lot of people use it to this day, but should it be eschewed as well, or is it far enough from the root words to be its own thing? Of course, if anybody asked me to, I would stop using it, but in general, should I just find something else, and if so, what is something as punchy that expresses how dense someone is?
