How scared should I be of the housing market?

Hi y’all,

I’m looking to move to Madrid late this year / early next (from NYC). My plan is to stay for 6-12 months (unless I somehow find employment and can stay longer but I’m not betting on it lol)

I’m quite concerned about the housing market— specifically because I won’t have a Spanish contract and I’m just going to be living off of my savings.

I would love to find a 1bd in centro Madrid ideally for under 1400 EUR/mo. My plan is to book an apartment for ~a month to give myself time to search for something more permanent.

My questions to the group are:
- how receptive will Spanish landlords be to a 6 or 8 month lease?
- how difficult will it be to find housing in centro Madrid without a Spanish contract?

My Spanish level is intermediate and I’m looking to move on a student visa to study Spanish and hopefully become fully fluent.

Thank you!

Cervantes Certified Language Schools for a 30 Year Old in Madrid?

Hi all,

I'm looking to move to Madrid on a student visa later this year / early next. Madrid is of course an incredible city-- but one of my main motivations for moving is to immerse myself in the language.

I would like to take intensive Spanish classes that would qualify me for a long term student visa.

Does anyone have recommendations for a Spanish school that has a diverse age range? Or at least that doesn't just cater to college students?

Thanks!
