Mounting 4x6 overhead garage rack to open-web floor trusses - how to do it safely?
Installing a 4x6 overhead storage rack in garage. Is there a safe way to mount it to be able to safely support weight (rated for 500 lbs):
- Drywall ceiling
- They is a finished living space above garage
- Between the ceiling and floor above, it is open-web wood floor trusses with metal connector plates
- Bottom chords are single 2x4s laid flat (4" face against drywall)
I will add: of course I checked AI. Gemini and Claude say use 2x6 ledgers but chstgpt says it can't be done, it's not safe. Confusing.
