Thinking about buying first vehicle

Heyo,

I'm looking to buy a Maverick as my first truck, I've owned a 2016 Hyundai Elantra base edition for about a year with roughly 155k miles. While it still works, I would like something as my own. I'm not too sure if I should just run the elantra into the ground and then purchase or not.

I'm currently a college student, earning roughly 4.8k in untaxable income for a month for 9 months of the year, and 1.2k in the summer months. I live at home in the summer, so I have very little in terms of expenses. I have about 70k total, including my investment account but I would rather not touch that. My only expenses are $450-500 for dorm and food, $160 currently for insurance, and I stretch my gas out for long durations if I can so I can't pinpoint my gas, but before the price raise, 80 a month, with a little CC debt but nothing above 13%.

I'm taking up a work-study job if I can, paying roughly $750 a month and I wanted to dedicate that to payments without touching my main source of income.

The specific model I'm looking for an XLT in Azure Gray, with a 2.5L Hybrid, FWD, with XLT Lux pack and Co-Pilot360.

It comes out to $35,670, and I want to put 20k down. The payments online for 72 months is $271. If I can I want to use my military and college "discount". I live in Massachusetts so I expect a tax and I'm doing FWD since the max snow I'll be driving through will be plowed slush.

I've been to a few dealers in the past (They told me I could only put 1k down, so I left instantly), and I really don't know what to ask, and my family doesn't really know or care, it mostly is "Just accept that is going to cost 4-5k more".

How do I go about ordering it from the manufacturer, and how should I go about just getting what I want and avoiding unneeded warranties, fees, and addons?
