Transport Advice: Travelling around Yunnan (from Sichuan) + Tips for must see places!

Hi! I'm going on a one month trip this August. I was looking for some advice regarding where to start our journey into Yunnan, along with any other general suggestions as to other must-go locations in Yunnan.

Starting in Chengdu for a few days, we plan to spend a couple of days in Kangding in Garzê before heading south to Yunnan. The most clear route seems to be to head back to Chengdu and getting a train down to Kunming. I would really like to visit Yanjin, which appears to be much closer to Chengdu than Kunming- but can't find any reliable info on trains there from Chengdu. The route to Kunming seems like it might go near there, so I'm just wondering if there's any clear way to train there without adding in a whole mess of extra time?

Ideally, I'd like to go first to Yanjin, and then onto Kunming before checking out a couple places like Dali or Lijiang before eventually heading south to the Vietnam border in Hekou and crossing over. I'm not super locked into any of this, so long as we get to our end point, so open to any suggestions! I would ideally like to stick to Train travel where possible and would favour any route that leads south towards Hekou.

Cheers
