Visited High Park yesterday and saw people hanging hammocks from cherry trees, pulling branches, and ignoring barriers. Posting a reminder to please respect the sakura and follow park rules so they’re here for future years.
Official reminders for visiting High Park:
🌸 Stay on paved paths and formal trails to protect roots and natural areas
🌸 Do not climb trees, pull branches, or shake limbs for petals
🌸 Do not hang hammocks, straps, ropes, or anything else from the trees
🌸 Do not tie bikes, bags, or equipment to trunks or branches
🌸 Respect barriers, signage, and fenced areas
🌸 Bikes are allowed only where permitted and must yield to pedestrians
🌸 E-scooters are not permitted in Toronto parks, paths, sidewalks, or roads
🌸 Clean up after yourself and leave no trace
Fines for damaging trees can start at $300, and other bylaw violations can reach up to $1,000 depending on the offence. But the greater cost would be losing or weakening these beautiful cherry blossoms for future generations.
Please take photos, enjoy the bloom, and treat High Park with the respect it deserves so everyone can continue to experience this special season.
Official City rules here if anyone wants to verify before arguing in the comments.
