Can anyone recommend a quiet pub where I can sit with a notebook for a couple of hours after work?

I work at university and spend all day around students, so I'm ideally looking for somewhere that isn't on the usual student circuit. Nothing against them, I just don't want to be bothered by them outside of work.

Looking for somewhere relaxed, comfortable, and generally quiet enough for reading or writing. Happy to travel a bit for the right place.
