Mayo new curse?

I can't be the only one who noticed members of the Mayo team welcoming a dastardly foreign sport into our hallowed headquarters the other weekend. Cillian O'Connor even handed the match ball to the captains who I can only assume are undercover British state assets.

That eclipse was no coincidence but the Lord expressing his displeasure at this grave betrayal. Another 75 years I think unless they crucify Joe Brolly in the middle of McHale Park.

How do US players feel about the influx of county players every summer?

Just seen a video on twitter of the Chicago SFC and it mentioned 6 active intercounty players were playing for Padraig Pearses.

Going to the US is obviously a great perk for the intercounty lads and I don't begrudge them but I've often wondered what the attitude is among the other players.

Does it not make the US championship a bit of a farce as it's essentially an arms race for who can splash enough cash to get the best intercounty players over. It's kind of against the ethos of the club game here as well.

Where to watch the final?

Well lads, I'm currently being detained in a CIA blacksite in Central America. Anyone know where'd be showing the match?

Louth were in Division 4 in 2021

Some job done in that county. And tbf, it all started with Mickey Harte's appointment. Listening to interviews with players it's clear Harte massively raised the standards and professionalism within the team. He left them in the lurch a bit but they've only made further strides. A great example for any traditionally "minnow" counties.

Can anyone stop the Mescals at this point or have they grown too powerful?

After Pól's breakthrough in the Dennys ad, first the singer-songwriter sister started getting press, then the Mam leveraged herself as some kind of self-help guru, and now the father is on 2fm promoting some play.

Has any one family leveraged so much publicity based on the talent of a relative?

So Conor Laverty said this in his post-match interview. Fairplay to Down on an incredible result but this struck me as a bit ominous. Just an astonishing level of commitment required for an "amateur" game. You'd have more days off in the premier league.

It feels like the time required of players just keeps getting pushed more and more. I don't know how these guys have families they must barely see them during the season.

It's hard to see where this trend eventually leads. There's clearly no desire to professionalise the game but the players are essentially being asked to live as professionals but without any compensation.
