Hi, just wanted to share a small update in case it helps anyone. Got an updated DEXA 14 months after my original diagnosis at the same clinic / scanner. I am a relatively young active male with no other co-morbidities so it was a surprise to discover the osteoporosis following a fracture.
Lumbar spine: T and Z score of -2.5. Was previously-2.8 (3.9% increase). Any further increases beyond -2.5 will move me out of osteoporosis and into osteopenia
Left Hip: T score -1.4, Z score -1.3. Was previously-1.8 (osteopenia).
Spoke to a few excellent consultants and one of the consultants recommended a clinic / physio that specialised in bone health. All doctors were pretty reticent to do any drug treatment at this stage given my age.
Physio had me on a routine based off of the LIFTMOR study. Lift 3x a week rotating A/B/A workouts and twice weekly running (one shorter and faster, one longer distance slow an steady)
- Day A: OHP, Rom DL + pull movements & core
- Day B: Squat, Split Squat, Weighted Dips + push movements & core
- Running: 2x a week
Supplements: Best bone support supplement I found was Bone Restore from Life Extension (bought via iHerb). Has all the ingredients at mostly the right doses for bone function.
Happy to make recommendations for anyone in the UK.
Edit: next step is to discuss with Endocrinology if testosterone therapy will help as I have elevated SHBG and slightly low free T
