Why has there not been an attempt to impeach Donald Trump this term?
**Disclaimer: I'm a European who has only taken one university class/module in American history/culture/literature and spent one academic quarter there, in a high school exchange programme, so my knowledge of the US political system is rather rudimentary. English is not my first language, and I apologise if anything is phrased incorrectly or is difficult to read/understand.**
Hi all, so as the title states, I'm honestly very confused about why there hasn’t been another attempt to impeach Donald Trump, or remove him via another act/bill/convention, yet? I know they attempted to impeach him during his previous term, so I do not understand why they have not yet done so this time around.
From an outside perspective, he seems less popular than ever, both within and outside of his own party. From my understanding, he has broken multiple laws, and his actions have been in direct conflict with international agreements and acts. There also seems to be some serious discussion around his physical health and mental fitness. I just do not understand why this has not been grounds for another impeachment attempt. Could someone please explain what nuances or regulations regarding impeachment or other related acts I'm missing?
This is not meant to kick off a political debate, just a genuine question about this procedure in US politics.
Thank you in advance for your patience with my ignorance and for taking the time to explain this to me!
