Hello, just looking for some other perspectives here!
I am a drummer in an original band and a cover band. The original band is my true passion, and the cover band is really just to make some extra cash and stay busy on the weekends. I’d say I don’t really love doing it, but I do love extra money in my picket lol. My cover band does both 3hr and 4hr long gigs at some local bars in the area. For our 3hr gigs, we often do 2 sets instead of three. When we do 2 set, 3hr gigs we will always have a set that is an hour and a half long. I’ve expressed before that it’s hard for me to play that long and that I don’t really have the stamina. I’d assume it’s because my heart just isn’t in it, but it’s very hard for me to stay “on it” and not feel absolutely exhausted after playing for an hour and a half straight. And then play for another hour in the second set! I’ve expressed this before and I’ve been dismissed on it every time I’ve mentioned it. For reference, we are the only band in the area that formats our shows like this. Everybody else does 45min-1hr sets max with 2 breaks instead of 1.
So really what I want to know: how long are your bar room cover band sets, and is it unreasonable to feel that an hour and a half is quite a long time for a cover band set?
