Just got breath test results, positive for both methane and hydrogen after months, if not a year, of symptoms. My GI is very willing to prescribe Rifaximin but has given zero other guidance. (He hasn't prescribed Neomycin for the methane but I wouldn't take it anyway due to the potential side effects.) The functional doctor has given me antimicrobial orders for Biocidin Broad Spectrum Liquid for the hydrogen, G.I Detox as a binder, and Allimed capsules for the methane. The dietician has given me complex and restrictive eating plans that left me completely overwhelmed as I absolutely love food, am already thin and cannot afford to lose any more weight. I'm pretty sure my underlying cause for the SIBO is twofold - I have a congenital/structural issue e.g. a redundant/tortuous colon (discovered during my first colonoscopy) which causes motility issues. And - I was diagnosed with Vitamin B6 toxicity last year which gave me peripheral and autonomic nervous system neuropathy and greatly affected my gut. So here are my questions. I'm really hesitant to go on antibiotics for SIBO. I watched my elderly father die from C.Diff and I don't want to risk getting C. Diff through taking antibiotics unless I absolutely need them. (I get it, it's not a common side effect, but regardless, I have extreme anxiety about it.) So, I want to try the antimicrobial route. Has anyone had some success with the protocol of Biocidin/Allimed/G.I Detox? Did you go on a restrictive diet before the protocol or after? How did you keep up your motility afterwards to help prevent relapse? A prescription pro kinetic like Motegrity or a natural pro kinetic like Iberogast? My mental health has been through the ringer this year with the B6 toxicity and the chronic health issues it's caused so I'm looking to make my first pass at treating this as simple and straightforward as possible. I know that may eventually change but that's about all I can handle right now. Also not looking for horror stories please. Again, mental health is already taxed. Thanks for any insights.
