Rhodium plating a yellow gold pendant - bad idea?
My son will be proposing to his longtime girlfriend using a white gold ring with an oval magenta Umba sapphire center stone with small diamond accents. One reason he chose the stone is because he had her look at some of his late grandmother’s jewelry for ideas about color. She loved the rich color of a particular purple sapphire pendant but specified that she would prefer white gold over yellow. He said she kept coming back to look at it.
With the ring underway, I’m considering making the pendant a gift sometime after the engagement. Would it be ridiculous to have it plated with rhodium to better match her ring? I’m aware that it would not last forever. The pendant has an oval center stone surrounded by a halo of small diamonds. (I’ve looked at everything under 365nm UV light, and it’s all consistent with natural sapphire and diamond - a few glow blue)..The cage is 14k yellow gold. I would pair it with a new white gold chain.
