Nothing last week?

Nothing last week?

I can't be the only one who was disappointed by not getting another Commonwealth Intelligence Report last week.

Competitive (?) Japanese with some Caveats

This is a follow-up to an earlier post where I was playing with a list that leaned into the Japanese special rules and unique units. After a few iterations I've landed on this alternate version and I'm curious what others think about it.

The list had to abide by these stipulations:

  • 18 OD limit at 1,250 points
  • "The Leadership Standard": The experience level of Platoon Commanders must be greater or equal to the experience level of the majority of units in a Platoon. The experience level of Company Commanders must be greater or equal to the experience level of the majority of units in the army.

I also had my own factors that I wanted to prioritize:

  • Minimal guns other than pistols. The idea is that the army focuses on getting into Close Combat using Veteran Tough Fighter Fanatics as much as possible.
  • Heavily utilize Infiltrators and fast-moving infantry (cavalry + transports) to get close to the enemy quickly.
  • Include an Artillery Platoon with a mix of Veteran and Inexperienced units to get the most out of re-crewing rules.

My general "game-plan" is that

  • The SNLF squad and officer team stick together as mid-range skirmishers that can still pull off an assault/Banzai if needed.
  • The Paratroopers and the Platoon Commander unit from the artillery platoon ride in the truck for a rapid advance and deployment.
  • The Company Commander hangs back with the artillery to provide the morale bonus and activating all four with a Snap To.
  • Infiltrators harass and create a speed-bump to slow down enemy movement.
  • Cavalry outflank if possible and use their superior speed to hunt down smaller enemy infantry units / weapons teams / artillery.
  • The artillery provides a solid base of fire with a mix of direct/indirect anti-tank/anti-infantry. The crews from the spigot mortars (minus one man) will immediately abandon their guns to join the Type 88 and Type 93, upgrading themselves to Veteran in the process. When/if that last remaining spigot mortar crewman is killed, the guns can be re-crewed from the Veteran units, upgrading the spigots to Veteran and gaining the benefit of SNLF Iron Discipline.

Army Special Rules for Australia have been revealed!

  • Never Give Up
    • Australian infantry and artillery have Fanatics when assaulted by enemy units.
  • Aggressive Patrolling
    • Australians can deploy all of their Infiltrators before the enemy deploys any.
    • One infantry section (up to 5 men) per Rifle Platoon may be given Infiltrators for +1 point per man.
    • Tease: "As you’ll see later on, Australian forces are well supplied with Infiltrators to make use of this rule"
  • Ambush Drills
    • Australian infantry units can go Down if targeted by Ambush fire.
