Would residents be open to a premed undergrad helping with abstracts/posters/papers?
Just wanna begin by saying idk if this is appropriate to post this here. If it’s not, please take this down.
I’m a rising junior premed at a university with an affiliated hospital, and I’m thinking about cold-emailing residents to ask if I can help with research projects like abstracts, posters, case reports, chart reviews, literature reviews, or manuscript work.
I’m not sure how realistic this is because I’ve only completed 2 years of college, so I don’t know if residents would trust me with meaningful work. But I do have some experience: I’m an EMT, I’ve worked in research labs, and I have a couple abstracts/posters plus 2 papers currently in submission where I’m a middle author on most of them.
For residents: would you be open to an undergrad reaching out like this if they were willing to do the lower level but time consuming work? What would make you more or less likely to respond? Is this worth trying, or would it come off as annoying/CV padding?
I’d also appreciate advice on how to phrase the email so it sounds helpful rather than like I’m just asking to be added to projects.
