Pardon my completely ignorance on this, but a few people have advised me and my wife against visiting Ankara due to safety reasons - I thought it would be better to check with locals rather than just take their outsider's word for it.

For context: We are in our 20s-30s. I am Portuguese (and I think would pass easily as Turkish) and she is Norwegian (so quite different from me - light skin, blond hair, blue eyes).

I may be visiting Ankara for a work conference for 4-5 days and there is an option for my wife to come with me and visit the city while I am there.

Is it safe for a tourist woman to walk around alone in the city? And is it worth visiting as a tourist?
