I recently acquired (or opened up) a Fender Japan 70s Strat and found these pickups inside. I was told they are Don Mare pickups, but I’m having trouble finding any information on this specific model.
As you can see in the photos, the bottom of the flatwork has hand-written markings that look like "Whitestone" (or maybe "Whaecotone"?).
I’ve searched Google and various forums but couldn't find a single mention of a Don Mare model called "Whitestone."
Could anyone help me with the following?
Do these look like authentic Don Mare hand-wound pickups?
Has anyone heard of a model called "Whitestone"? Is it a custom order or a limited run?
What kind of tonal characteristics should I expect from these?
Unfortunately, the bridge pickup seems to be dead (no output), so I’m trying to decide whether to get it rewound or sell the set as-is. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
