Going to Iceland this week! What stop unexpectedly became your favorite?

Going to Iceland this week for a 7-day campervan trip. We planned our itinerary using Lonely Planet as online travel blogs and social media posts can get overwhelming. We are trying to avoid googling "best X near me" during this trip. My spouse and I are pretty happy just driving, stopping somewhere beautiful, finding a random café, sitting somewhere scenic or local experience, etc. What were your favorite moments or stops, either planned or unplanned?

Current overnight plan is roughly:

Night 1 — Tröllaskagi peninsula
Night 2 & 3 — Mývatn area
Night 4 — Glacier lagoon / Fjallsárlón area
Night 5 — Vík
Night 6 — Laugarvatn
Night 7 — Reykjavik before flying home

A few anchor things we already have planned:

  • whale watching in Húsavík
  • glacier hike / ice cave area
  • Mývatn nature baths
  • black sand beach stops
  • random hikes and scenic detours whenever something looks interesting

Detailed itinerary:

Day 1 | Reykjavík → Tröllaskagi area (~5 hr drive)

  • Hafnarfjall scenic stop (~1 hr)

Day 2 | Tröllaskagi → Mývatn area (~1 hr drive)

  • Kaldi Brewery / The Beer Spa
  • Ayukeri
  • Goðafoss waterfall
  • Hverfjall Crater hike
  • Húsavík Whale Watching
  • Hiking around Mývatn
  • Earth Baths (geothermal)

Day 3 | Mývatn area (full day) (no driving)

  • Hverir geothermal area (fumaroles & mud pools)
  • Hofn area

Day 4 | Mývatn → Southeast Iceland area (~5 hr drive)

  • Glacier Walk
  • Black Sand Beach

Day 5 | Southeast Iceland → South Coast area (~1 hr drive)

  • Hiking Skaftafell
  • Katla Ice Cave Tour

Day 6 | South Coast → Golden Circle area (~2.5 hr drive)

  • Seljalandsfoss (walk behind the waterfall)
  • Dinner at Dill Restaurant

Day 7 | Golden Circle → Reykjavík (~1.5 hr drive)

  • Return to Reykjavík, explore & depart

Hoping to get validations from people who successfully used China visa free transit for a family emergency.

For background, I live in the US and hold a US passport, which is one of the allowed countries.

Below is the itinerary and I confirmed that the entry points are one of the allowed ports as well.

  • Flight 1 / Ticket 1: US to Canada
  • Flight 2 / Ticket 2: Canada to China, with a layover in Hong Kong
  • Stay in an allowed region in China for 5 days
  • Flight 3 / Ticket 3 (different airline): China to US

My questions are:

  1. Do I need to go through the immigration in Hong Kong? I know I am hedging the risk by going to Canada first to make sure either Canada or Hong Kong counts as Country A
  2. To simplify my trip, could I just fly from US to Hong Kong, then goes through Hong Kong immigration (use a slightly longer layover) and then fly directly back to US? Trying to see if I could save a trip to Canada...
  3. Do I need ticket 2 and ticket 3 to be an interline ticket?
  4. Is there an official number I can call to confirm? I speak Chinese if that helps.

I am going back for a family emergency so want to make sure my itinerary is 100% safe. Given that there is a mixed of old / new information on the internet, I wanted to confirm with those of you who have successfully used this policy. Thanks!

Does my trip qualify for China visa-free transit?

Based on everything I have read, I feel pretty confident but wanted to see if you can help me validate.

For both options, I will not stay more than 10 days in China.

Do I need interline tickets? Can these be two one way tickets?

Thanks for validating!

240-hour Visa-Free Transit for a Family Emergency - Itinerary Check

Hi all! I have a US passport and need to be back in China for a family emergency. I will not have time to get a visa given that it will take 2-3 weeks now.

I am hoping this group can help me double check my itinerary and answer a ticket question.

  • 5/23 - US (New York) to China (one of the 60 allowable ports)
    • Stay in China for 3-4 days
  • 5/28 - China to Canada
  • 5/29 or 5/30 - Canada back to the US

My question are:

  • Does the itinerary meet the requirements for visa free transit? I am pretty sure it is but given Canada is so close to US, I wanted to double check.
  • Does the US->China->Canada need to be on one interline ticket?

Thank you everyone. Any help and tips are greatly appreciated!
