UK - NI - Irl (Another Query)
Apologies, this is not an EV specific query, but I've seen some good advice from contributors here so would appreciate confirmation on this scenario for a family member.
This person is on the Disabled Passenger's Scheme (Relief up to 16k on VAT and VRT). Has been through the scheme multiple times but usually for a new car which is fairly straightforward.
The goal is to buy a 252/261 Mercedes GLC300e from the UK, more than likely from a Mercedes dealer. Choice up North is limited, and she wants a specific spec. The car will have to be a VAT qualifying car.
I understand a dealer in NI can import a vehicle from the UK, and once they complete the customs declaration correctly, allowing release for free circulation (the vehicle will not be eligible for customs duty. As mentioned, the car will have to be VAT qualifying, zero rated for VAT at purchase, the buyer will then pay VAT in Ireland and reclaim the valid amount (16k minus VRT = balance of VAT to be refunded).
Does anyone know a dealer in NI that would facilitate this? I'm not looking for someone to prep etc, but maybe someone that charges a fee to facilitate the deal.
Any recommendations for a dealer, or any gaps in my understanding here?
