Can we please talk about peeling license plates?

I’m now on my second plate, and this one basically started disintegrating after going through a car wash. These plates don’t seem durable at all, especially considering they’re exposed to salt, weather, freezing temperatures, and regular washing year-round.

Yes, I know replacements are technically free, but it’s an inconvenience and Access Nova Scotia isn’t all that accessible sometimes.

What bothers me most is that this has been a known issue for years. If the province knows the plates are failing prematurely, why is the legal burden still entirely on motorists? Drivers can still be ticketed for plates that become unreadable through normal use, even when the defect appears to come from the manufacturing itself.

At some point, shouldn’t responsibility be shared? If the government issues defective plates, motorists shouldn’t be expected to absorb all the inconvenience, risk, and potential penalties.
