heatworm treatment?
I'm about to start fostering a dog who is, sadly, heartworm positive. The rescue contact told me the vet was recommending "slow kill" treatment and gave me a link to the Heartworm Society for more info. Well, all over their website are warnings about how "slow kill" is ineffective and dangerous (the worms live longer, so cause more damage to the heart/lungs). I'm a new-ish foster (this will be my 2nd dog) and am wondering if I should push back on this? It may just be a cost issue, sadly, but I would be happy to help defray the expense if it's really that much better for the little guy.
Looking for advice from more experienced fosters - it is a no-go for me to question the shelter/vet's treatment plan? I did a lot of research and am confident this rescue is a good one, plus I am also very aware of my own lack of knowledge... but the website THEY SENT ME TO is very against this treatment option.
