Locals/regulars of Alligator Point, FL - June trip advice? Fishing, mini Jon boat/kayak safety, swimming, food, and area must-dos.

Booked an Airbnb in mid-June at Alligator Point with our two teen boys (15 & 16) and the family pup, and we’re really looking forward to experiencing this beautiful, quiet stretch of Old Florida.

We’d love any local advice, tips, hidden gems, or “wish someone had told us before our first trip” type info. A few specific questions:

1. Boating / Water Safety
We have a little Pond Prowler (10’ mini jon boat w/ 30lb trolling motor) plus a kayak. We’d love to bring one or both for fishing if it’s realistically safe.

I know these aren’t “big water” boats, so I’m not looking to do anything reckless. But with the shallow flats and calm-water descriptions I’ve seen, would staying close to shore on a calm day be reasonable… or is that still a bad idea on the gulf side?

2. Swimming / Beach Safety
Safe for swimming and wading with teens? Any concerns with bull sharks, stingrays, currents, etc.? Best beach areas for swimming?

3. Fishing
We’re a fishing family and would love advice on:

  • Shore/surf setups
  • Wade fishing spots
  • Kayak/small boat opportunities (if safe)
  • Best bait/lures in mid-June
  • Any reasonably priced charter recommendations for a family of 4

4. Things to Do with Teen Boys
Anything nearby that’s a must-do? Fishing, wildlife, springs, cool local spots?

5. Food
Best dinner spots within a reasonable drive? Seafood, local favorites… all fair game.

6. Best / Worst of AP
Hidden gems? Things to avoid? Anything first-timers should know?

Thanks in advance! Really excited to experience Alligator Point and appreciate any local knowledge!
