Interested in BC, but balancing severe mental health issues

Hi everyone! Im 20F.

After speaking to my gyno, I have been very interested in looking for a form of birth control. Not for the actual birth control aspect, but for the hormones to control my period. I have severe pain & cramps that really mess with my daily life. She told me there are options that could lessen my period pain. Ive mostly looked into hormonal IUDs, as she suggested they were completely safe. My biggest concern is that I deal with severe depression, anxiety & suicidal ideation. But I've been doing better, and I would hate to introduce hormones into my body that could trigger a suicidal episode.

I try to research hormonal IUDs, the shot, etc but everyone seems to have such strong and mixed opinions! I'm also worried that completely losing my period won't be good for my health. I just want something to lessen my pains and make life a little easier. Does anyone else have experience with severe mental health issues, how have hormonal birth control impacted you? Thanks!
