The Girl in the Woods

There's a book I read in high school. It would have been in the 1980's. The book was most likely written way before then, but I'm certain it was not written by a well-known author. I remember parts of the book, but I don't remember the title. I know it was a book I cried at the beginning, middle, and at the end, and it was one I could not stop reading. It was that good. I would love to read this again, but I need the title. It was about a family that lived in the woods. There was a biracial marriage with the man being white and the mom African American. They had a biracial daughter. The family lived in a cabin, isolated, and away from civilization. The mother later dies, and the daughter and father continued to live in the woods. The father later becomes ill, and he passes away. The daughter learns to take care of herself but knows nothing of the outside world. I think the daughter was a teenager at the time the dad passes, and she's likely in her 20's when an injured stranger stumbles across her cabin. I believe the girl takes care of the injured man and romance comes into play. Can anyone help me discover the title so I can read this book again? It was that awesome.
