Please advice after score jump from 230->258. Is it a fluke?
Hey everyone. I’m about 2 weeks out from my STEP 2 exam and I’m honestly confused about my score trend and wanted some advice/reassurance.
Here are my NBMEs in order:
- NBME 10 (April 24): 239
- NBME 13 (10 days later): 245
- NBME 12 (4 days later): 243
- NBME 14 (a week ago): 232
I took nbme 14 after a heavy day of study and constant reviewing and sat down did it around 7pm. i did 80 questions in one go then 120 in another. I honestly dont know what i was thinking wasting a form like that. While reviewing i felt so stupid because i knew the concept of more than 70% wrongs but i either didnt read the stem properly or didnt even look at all options.
The 232 on NBME 14 really scared me, so after that I started grinding CMS forms very heavily and focusing hard on my weak areas.
Yesterday I took NBME 11 and got 258 (81% correct), which honestly shocked me because I was expecting something much lower after the 232.
Now I genuinely don’t know what to think. Is a jump like this possible from targeted review/CMS practice, or does NBME 11 tend to overpredict? Has anyone else had score fluctuations like this close to the exam?
My real exam is in 2 weeks and I’m trying to figure out whether this is a sign I’m actually improving or just a fluke/test variance.
Would really appreciate any advice or similar experiences.
