I spent £310 on ads in 2 months and got 3 sales

I started building my software in late March and had it ready in a few weeks. I pretty much immediately started running ads because I'm impatient and my organic posts weren't really doing anything.

I did tiktok ad first which was a mistake. I spent about £50(with fees) on that because I had no idea what I was doing and got 1300 website visitors and not a single sale.

Then I went to Meta ads. Campaign 1 was £110 over 5 days and targeted 20-55 year old men in first world English speaking countries. The first 2 days was a bust and it barely spent. Then on the 3rd day at 10pm or so, I received the stripe notification that i had gotten a sale and I was ecstatic. Two days later I got another one, then I thought I had made it. Both were men 35-44 from Facebook reels. I was glad i got my first few sales but I wasn't very happy with the stats being spent £110 to get two $19 subscriptions.

Few weeks passed and I got impatient and lazy again and convinced myself to run another campaign because I had gotten some data and I had better creatives. So I refined, targeted only men 35-44 in the US and ran campaign 2 with three different ad sets for £150 over 7 days.

I checked my phone every 5 minutes and got radio silence for the first 4-5 days. On day 4, I received a notification from stripe and was almost happy till I saw it was a tax report. The trippy thing though was that every positive stat doubled from the previous campaign, all except sales. On the 5th day I got the notification from stripe and was slightly relieved that I hadn't just thrown away all that money. I did get quite a few users that signed up from this but didn't subscribe.

I don't actually know yet if anyone wants the product or if I just paid people enough times to find the 3 who did. That's the question I need answered before I can look in the direction of paid ads.

Now I'm defaulting back to tiktok organic, reddit, pinterest and so on. The goal now is getting a sale that didn't come from me paying for eyeballs.
