Salary sacrifice for car for basic rate tax payer, or another option?

I need someone to explain this to me like I'm five, I understand it but I don't understand it. Is it worth it? How does it work? I'm sick of buying second hand motors and end up paying money to just fix it. Front arms, turbo, catalytic converter, wet belt the list goes on.

I live in a block of flats so an EV is out of the question I keep seeing everyone talking about salary sacrifice and wondering if its even a viable option. I don't want nothing fancy nice little 4x4 for the family or something a decent sized boot. Could someone give me an example or a breakdown of how this would work or even a better option possibly? Is it possible to get something for say 200-300 quid a month on salary sacrifice or something along these lines, few grand down payment or payment at the end? I await answers with bated breath.
