I am currently moving abroad (from the Middle East to Canada) for a PhD. I am dreading about what to do with my possessions and books. I can only move a very small portion of my stuff, and shipping it by cargo is ridiculously expensive.

I know my best option is asking my family and friends to store things and try to get things piece by piece at every visit, but I want to hear your experiences and maybe get some nice advice.
