Mekpark
Q: Regarding training programs like mekPark, other companies have had them, such as "vα-liv" in Idolmaster and VTA in Nijisanji, but I think this is the first time in Cover's history. Could you tell us about the specific reasons for focusing your efforts on this?
A: One of the reasons behind Mr. Tanigo's mekPark is that there are quite a lot of VTubers out there. It's quite difficult for individual talents to stand out on their own, so we've recently been placing more importance on unit development. In fact, at hololive DEV_IS, the directors for "ReGLOSS" and "FLOW GLOW" each have their own channels to manage.
By doing this, it becomes possible not only for each individual talent to grow their own channel, but also for the company to grow the group's channel, allowing them to grow together.
This is similar to how, in the world of idols, we've moved from an era where solo talents like Masahiko Kondo were the main focus to the current era where groups like Snow Man attract attention.
Speaking of VTubers, there's KiznaAI and Tokino Sora, and from there, more and more units are being formed, so we want to cultivate the ability to manage units within the company.
Working as part of a unit and collaborating with other talents can be challenging for the talents themselves, as it requires strong communication skills. However, if a unit is difficult to manage after their debut, it can hinder their growth. Therefore, our approach to training is quite different from other companies: we have them grow together with the director as a unit beforehand, and then promote them based on that.
