Bustle support?
My friend has this in a drawer in an old family house in Italy and says it's been there for over 100 years. It looks like a bustle support to me, but I've never seen anything like it in museums or historical illustrations!
Does anyone know what this is or what it's called?
The front part and the back part are very stiff with no give and it has ribbons connecting the sides. It seems to sit nicely with the skinny part up the front (over a corset I would presume) and the wide part on your lower back, with the long parts hanging over your hips, but I'm just guessing!
The dresses appear to be late nineteenth century but the items could be from different eras.
