Getting lowballed by my Personal Injury Attorney

Location: NJ

Long story short, I was involved in a no fault hit and run accident where a driver hit my car and fled the scene. I was working Uber at that time and had a passenger in the back (thank God he is ok), my car was totaled and towed from the scene and I was transported to the hospital also from the scene. I have a police report.

I then hired an attorney who made a lot of promises and assured me that I have a very strong case, and then received medical treatment, physical therapy plus back injection for a herniated disc, bulging disc, and a shoulder slap tear for ~8 months.

Fast forward 15 months later, I thought my attorney was representing me with good faith to my best interest so I didn’t bother him by calling regularly. I just spoke to him and basically all he said was that “the insurance offered 3500, take it or we sue.”

I lost my car, my job, prevented me from getting other jobs (due to open litigation), wasted 1.5 years of my life waiting and hoping for at least a reasonable offer but then the offer I get is 3500!!!

I am at a huge loss both physically and financially, suffering both personal injury and property damage and am in utter disbelief for the extremely low offer that I got that doesn’t even cover half the cost of my vehicle let alone my personal injury and suffering!

Is that a common situation? And what can I legally do now? Is my attorney playing games behind my back? Or is he making secret deals without my knowledge?
WHAT IS GOING ON!?

PLEASE ADVICE!!!
Thank you all in advance 🙏
