A Bestseller Has a Similar Concept to My WIP

My best friend recently got me into Fourth Wing, and upon opening it I realized Rebecca Yarros used an idea similar to one I'm using in my own WIP. The idea that her book is a record of the history of her world that the reader is engaging with. To say finding this out filled me with excitement would be an understatement.

A bestseller has a similar concept to something in my WIP.

This means I'm onto something with the idea, and I love that.

Too often I see posts from writers who read a book with a similar idea to their WIP, and suddenly feel as if they can't keep writing their story because it's been done before. So, if that's you, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage you to change your perspective.

So what if it's been done before.

You haven't done it before.

You haven't told your version of the story yet. From your mind. With your personal experiences coloring it.

If there's a bestseller out there with a similar premise to your WIP that just means there's an audience out there craving what you're writing.

So write it.

Everything has been done before. It's OK to tell a story that's been told before. Just tell it your way, because your way isn't their way.

Like they say in Gnomeo and Juliet: The story you are about to see has been told before. Alot. And now we are going to tell it again...but different

What stories out there are similar to your current WIP or have a similar concept to something in your WIP?
