Do you believe in giving your kids an allowance? And if so how much?
Hi everyone!! Hope everyone is surviving this HECTIC weather ❤️
I have one beautiful child, a 12 year old daughter (in grade 6) and I have never before given her an allowance -because she never needed one.
Me and hubby pay for her necessities (like food and clothes and stationary and skincare etc.). We are pretty well off so we have never felt the need to “budget” our kiddo - we would always pay because she was never unreasonable. She’s also just the chillest kid ever and has been such a blessing in our lives!! I love being her mama!
BUT!!
Yesterday at breakfast she mentioned how all her friends have allowances and I was like WHATTT. I have never heard of this but I was not opposed.
It had just never dawned on me that little prepubescent kiddies were getting allowances…
She then proceeded to share that a few of her friends get allowances of R2000 bi-monthly.
Now she does go to an all girls private school so these kiddos come from wealth. BUT then she tells me that the girls use the money when they go out with friends and asked if she could get an allowance too.
I said yes because I love and trust my child (Hubby also approved) and I think it will be a good way to teach her financial literacy.
But now I wanna know is R4000 monthly (split between whenever she wants it -as in I set that money aside and she withdraws when she chooses to) reasonable for an allowance??
Do your kiddos have allowances??? Do your kiddos ever save their allowances??
Please let me know julle! She’s my only child and hubby and I just want to raise her the best we can!!
