Sub or no Sub?

Do you guys prefer to have a sub if the main teacher is out? Or do you prefer to take the wheel with the other classroom para? I find that they usually seem pretty uncomfortable and out of place, but I feel like it’s because they don’t get told what they’re walking into? I was curious if they get to choose where in the school they sub at? (No hate to ANYONE, just an observation/question).

I’m an ASD para in a middle school classroom. We have a student who is incredibly intelligent and engaging, but they’re frequently in a very heightened state like really loud laughing, yelling, constant stimulation, almost hysterical at times? (Apologies if that is offensive language). I’m trying to understand how to help regulate and ground them without shutting down their personality or happiness. When they get like this it’s really hard to get through to them. What are some effective strategies for helping a student come back to a calmer and more regulated state in moments like this?

Love being a para and I’m ready to take the next steps! How would I go about doing our para to teacher program with no prior college at all? I assume I’d have to earn a certain amount of credits then do the program?

1st year para, had my review and it went very well! They said the only thing I can improve on is planning and preparation, and that it comes with experience. How can I improve myself over the summer, or just in general to become a stronger para overall by next school year?
