My wife gets scheduled for a shift every Saturday because her coworker says his religion prevents him from working on Saturdays

The situation is pretty much what the title says. My wife has been getting scheduled at work almost every Saturday because of this, and honestly I feel like it's insane. Is this a thing? What religions don't allow working on Saturday?
Before the new employee was hired, she used to get Saturdays off on a rotating basis, but now she's been scheduled for 11 Saturdays in a row. She works in a retail pharmacy, so Saturday is by far one of the busiest shifts.
This is bothering me because I work a regular 8-to-4 job, and she usually takes night shifts, so we already struggle to find time to spend together. And when Saturday is gone too, it gets much worse.
She talked to her supervisor about it, but I imagine he's worried about saying anything because of religious accommodation rules. Is there anything we can realistically do here? We're in Canada, if that makes a difference.
