Student giving me candy
I (27F) work as a special education teacher for a primary school. One day during our specialized instruction about phonics. This sweet boy interrupts me and asks me if he can give me something. I allowed him to show me what it was.
It was an unwrapped single sour patch kid that he had stuffed into his sweatshirt pocket. I was ready to burst out laughing because he would be the kid on my caseload to do that.
I refused his offer at first by telling him that there is pocket fuzz on it. He proceeded to blow as hard as he can and picks off the lint and says “Here you go Ms teacher. Eat it!”
I continue to politely decline the offer saying I’m full from lunch and maybe later I would take up on his offer.
Remind you he just got back inside from lunch and recess. So who knows what this sour patch kid has been through up until my small group.
After he proceeds to put it away, then immediately he takes it back out and said to me”We can share! You can have his head, I’ll take the other half!”
As he handed the severed sour patch kids head, he was insisting for me to eat it.
I told him I will save it for after class and I proceeded to put the candy in my pocket.
Throughout the 30 minute class he keeps asking if I still have a candy, that I should eat it, and throws in a couple “I love you” from my student.
When class time was over, they get a piece of candy from my prize bin ( PBIS stuff). He then asks me if I still had the candy and if I will eat it. I say to him that I’m not hungry and I will save this severed sour patch kids head for later.
To remember this by, I took a picture with him with our candy split in half, to send to his parents on our messaging app we use for school. They LOVED it and thought it was funny and cute for him to share.
Overall, this was my favorite memories so far as a teacher.
I hope this brightens your day, as it did to me!
