Hey everyone,

I’ve recently been accepted into the MSc Finance & Management at the University of St Andrews, which I’m really excited about. I did my undergrad at the University of Southampton, where I was also President of the Student Association, and I’ve developed a strong interest in research. Long term, I’m also considering pursuing a PhD, so St Andrews feels like a great academic environment to explore that path.

That said, I’m trying to make a practical decision.I did receive a scholarship, but as an international student, it’s still quite expensive overall. I’m not a big city person, so the smaller, quieter environment at St Andrews actually really appeals to me but I want to understand if it’s worth the investment.

I had a few questions for current students / alumni:

  • Is St Andrews worth it for postgraduate finance in terms of career outcomes?
  • How strong is the career support for international students (especially for finance roles in the UK)?
  • How realistic is it to secure a job after graduation given visa constraints?
  • I’m planning to work part-time — is it possible to cover living expenses (food, basic costs) this way?
  • What’s a realistic estimate of total yearly expenses (rent + living) as a postgrad student?

I’d especially love to hear from other international students or anyone who has done the same programme.
