Has anyone here temporarily moved from United States payroll to India payroll while on H-1B visa, and then later switched back to H-1B visa payroll/status after getting visa stamping sorted?
I may need to do this temporarily and want to make sure I cover everything before agreeing. For anyone who has been through it, what should I get in writing from my employer, and what should be on my checklist?
Some areas I’m thinking about:
• Written confirmation of intent/path to move back to United States payroll once stamping is resolved
• Role/title/team/reporting manager staying the same
• Compensation structure, bonuses, stock/equity impact
• Immigration support for return (petition validity, transfer back process, timelines)
• Tax implications in both India and United States
• Benefits/insurance/retirement changes
• Any risks of being treated as a new hire later
Would really appreciate hearing real experiences, lessons learned, or things you wish you had asked upfront.
