Mockmill 100 - strange intermittent startup issue. Looking for troubleshooting advice.
I borrowed a Mockmill 100 a while back. It sat unused for some time, and when I finally started using it again, I noticed some strange behavior. At first the machine would start normally, then suddenly not start at all when pressing the ON/OFF switch. I had read online that sometimes the stones can get stuck, so at one point I loosened the stones a bit. I honestly don’t even remember anymore whether that actually changed anything or if I was chasing the wrong issue from the beginning.
What started happening was this:
- I’d press the power switch and nothing would happen.
- Then I’d move it to a different outlet and suddenly it would work again.
- I used it like that a few times.
- Then eventually that outlet would stop working too for the mill only.
- I’d move it to another outlet and it would work again.
- One time it only worked in the second receptacle of a duplex outlet.
- But once an outlet “stopped working” for the machine, it would never work again for it afterward.
This obviously made absolutely no sense to me. I eventually opened the machine up to look for obvious issues: loose wiring, burnt connections, swollen components, strange smell, visible damage. But nothing looked obviously wrong. All the wiring seemed intact and connected.
Now I can’t get it to start on any outlet anymore. I even gave it to another friend to test at their house and it still won’t start there either. I realize this whole story sounds ridiculous or maybe even user-error-ish, but I’m just describing exactly what happened. I’d really like to return this thing to my friend in working condition if possible.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
