Reading Mahabharata as an atheist feels very different
I recently became an atheist despite growing up in a very spiritual family, and honestly Mahabharata raised more questions in my mind than atheist debates ever did.
Karna being judged for his birth despite his talent.
Ekalavya being denied equality despite his dedication.
Even Krishna proudly calling himself a Yadav felt progressive for that time, yet the larger caste hierarchy still remained unquestioned throughout the story.
The epic has philosophy and wisdom, but it also reflects how deeply casteism was embedded in society. What shocked me most is that even “God” in the story never openly challenged the caste system itself.
