Atlassian New Grad SWE vs Capital One New Grad SWE in Canada ( What to pick)
Hey everyone,
I’m deciding between Atlassian SWE New Grad and Capital One SWE New Grad and wanted to get some advice. For context, I care most about long-term growth as a software engineer, promotion speed, compensation progression, brand value, mentorship, and future exit opportunities.
Atlassian
Location: Vancouver
Seems like the stronger pure tech/product engineering brand
Public company equity, so RSUs are easier to value
Work seems more aligned with large-scale product engineering
Main concern is cost of living in BC and not knowing how fast new grads grow/promote
Capital One
Canada-based new grad SWE role
Seems stable with a structured new grad/career path
Strong company name, especially in fintech/financial services
Main concern is whether the brand and technical growth are as strong as Atlassian for future SWE roles
Right now, I’m leaning toward Atlassian because it feels like it may have stronger tech brand value and better long-term optionality, especially if I want to move to big tech or startups later. But I’m not sure if I’m underestimating Capital One’s growth path or stability.
Some questions to consider....
Which company has better SWE brand value?
Which would you choose for long-term career growth?
Would appreciate any honest thoughts as to what company I should go with!
Thank you so much!
