277 and post-exam anxiety

Two weeks ago, i made This Post about the exam. Since that time, anxiety has been haunting me. I was actively trying to recall my mistakes to count them. I remembered 50 questions. After doing my research, at least 25 of them are undisputed mistakes, some of them are really silly**.** Not to mention that I flagged probably >50% of the test. At one point, I stopped flagging questions because I thought that the milliseconds it takes to flag a single question had piled up to a considerable amount. I really thought that I messed up on the one test I couldn’t afford to mess up. The takeaway message I’d like to convey to fellow anxious test-takers desperately looking for reassurance is: Trust Your NBMEs (and stop counting your f***ing mistakes)

In the order taken:

UWSA 1: 275, NBME 9: 268, NBME 12: 267, UWSA 3: 270, NBME 13: 272, NBME 11: 272, NBME 14: 283, NBME 15: 277, UWSA 2: 277, NBME 16: 280, OLD FREE: 92%. NEW FREE (10 Days out): 89%. Amboss prediction: 277

Approximately 2 weeks between each.

Just got home after the test

Might be a bit early to post, but I want to contribute to the community and hopefully help someone sitting for the test in the upcoming days.

1- I can’t stress enough how important NBMEs and the new Free 120 are. These should be your top priority to finish.

2- CMS forms are definitely worth doing. The newest 2–3 forms are probably more important than Amboss or UWorld.

3- Ethics was fair game. Doing UWorld + Amboss should set you up well. If you’re willing to take it a step further, read the Amboss articles as well.

4- Biostats questions were few (fortunately), but very difficult. Kind of Amboss-level difficulty.

5- QI: I felt like UWorld and Amboss questions were enough. I didn’t read the articles. You’re good as long as you know the high-yield scenarios (e.g., retained surgical object) and stick to the general rules (e.g., avoiding a blaming culture, human factors engineering).

The exam definitely has its share of “WTF” questions that I’m pretty sure no one knows the answer to. But overall, many concepts are repeated from NBMEs and CMS forms, and I can vividly recall seeing them on the exam.

I would recommend that on the last day, you skim through some NBME questions and the new Free 120 to get used to the wording.

Feel free to ask me anything.
