need help diagnosing my majesty palm
alright so i’ll admit immediately that i was enchanted by this palm not only by her strikingly large fronds but also the price- $25.99. i couldn’t resist. i adeptly maneuvered her into my 2009 honda fit (the magic folding backseats make me toxically think i can fit anything in her) and drove home into the sunset blasting my stereo with my brand new majesty palm.
cue me getting home, i unload her and present her to the fiancé. he’s totally astonished and in awe, mouth to the floor, mind you this guy couldn’t keep a moon cactus alive.
so anyway i let her sit for a week or so in a bright indirect lit room near a north facing window. after the allotted time, i promptly repotted her, as her pot was minuscule in comparison to her root ball. i sized her up in a pot 1-2 inches wider in diameter and drowned that hoe. i placed her back in her little corner and admired Her Majesty.
another week goes by and of course i catch my cat nibble her fronds a tiny bit here and there (although she’s pet safe, id rather my cat not destroy her—but that’s another story for another time). i do a little research on her (should’ve done this before purchasing obviously) but realized that my Pittsburgh home was far too dry for her. So I bought a humidifier and placed it on a small table beside her (it shoots upward, but doesn’t directly touch the leaves). I’ve been leaving it on the lowest setting at all times and only filled it with distilled water.
so this evening rolls around and i’m shutting my lights off and i take a little look at Her Majesty and see these flat white and dark brown/black spots on her fronds. i’ve tried to do more research but everything is just telling me 5 different pests it could be.
is it pests? i saw a few fungus mats flying around but i set up traps and did the repot with better soil to hopefully take care of them. could it be a humidity issue? stress from the repot?
any insight or help is appreciated 🫡
