Leaving Public Accounting

I am a Manager (promoted in April) at a non-big 4, but top 10 public accounting firm in a mid-sized to smaller city in the Midwest. Recently, I have been thinking about my potential exit from PA. Not sure I have what it takes, or the want that it takes to try to make partner, even though a potential path has been outlined for me. The problem is that I don't even know where to start looking when it comes to jobs outside PA. Not sure I want to go the true corporate accounting route by looking for controller/assistant controller positions. What are some jobs people went to after PA that they liked that weren't the true controller path? Financial analyst, financial reporting, and investment accounting are some positions I have looked at. I have spent a lot of time in my audit career around investments and insurance companies, as well as working on an SEC insurance company. I recently started a little in the banking industry as well.

The main issue is that I am in a smaller city, so options are limited compared to other cities unless they are remote positions, which seem to be getting fewer by the day. Moving isn't completely out of the question, but more of a long-shot, last-resort type thing.
